(416) 263.2231 987.5039 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF DECEMBER 17, 1984. REPORT NO.: WD -87 -84 SUBJECT: SCHOOL BUS LOADING ZONE ST. STEPHEN'S SCHOOL, 80 RHONDA BLVD., BOWMANVILLE. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That a School Bus Loading Zone be established for St. Stephen's Elementary Separate School on the west side of Rhonda Blvd., in Bowmanville; and, 3. That the attached amendment to By -law 76 -34 be approved by Council. ....2 /, FL r Page 2 REPORT NO. WD -87 -84 REPORT: The attached correspondence has been received from the Peterborough - Victoria - Northumberland and Newcastle Roman Catholic Separate School Board requesting a school bus loading zone on the west side of Rhonda Blvd., adjacent to St. Stephen's School. A school bus loading zone would enable buses loading and discharging students to do so in compliance with the Highway Traffic Act with a minimum of problems. Due to the unpredictable actions of school children in the school yard and parking lot, it is dangerous for buses to enter the parking lot to load and discharge students. Backing up manoeuvres could result in injury or fatality. Loading and discharging on the road without benefit of a legal loading zone would necessitate the use of flashing lights on the bus over extended periods of time which would interfere with other traffic using the street. As the implementation of the above recommendation is consistent with the practice of other schools in Town, passing of the attached by -law would be appropriate. Respectfully submitted, r R.G.
