REPORT:
The Public Works Department has received several enquiries and requests to
offer for sale, various surplus equipment. Tradionally, this equipment has
been disposed of at the Durham Region Public Auction held each year in
September. However, in view of the recent requests and interest in the
surplus equipment, it is recommended that the equipment be offered for sale
by public tender.
The following is a list of the equipment recommended for disposal :

Item # 1, a Wabco Grader, broke down during the 1987 winter season and due
to the extensive repair work required to make it operational , it is
recommended that the unit be sold. The grader was scheduled in the 1987
Fleet Budget for replacement in 1989 at an estimated cost of $160,000. In
view of the gradual change from gravel roads to hard top roads, the
necessity for a fourth grader is declining and its replacement will be
reviewed in greater detail during the 1988 Public Works Fleet Budget
discussions.
Items 4,5 and 6 are to be offered for sale only if the recommendations in
Report WD-46-87, Refuse Collection in the Bowmanville Urban Area, are
approved.
It is, therefore, respectfully recommended that the surplus Public Works
equipment and material be offered for sale by public tender in accordance
with the Purchasing By-law.
