REPORT #:WD-42-87 FILE #: SUBJECT: INSURANCE CLAIM - LOSS OF VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That this report be received; and, 2. That the Director of Public Works be authorized to accept the Insurance Adjustor's recommendation for consideration of $15,493.70 as payment in full for damage which occured to a 1976 I.H.C. Dump Truck and Plow and that the amount be contributed to the Public Works Fleet Reserve j Account. I . . . .2 i i Page 2 Report No. WD-42-87 BACKGROUND & REPORT: On February 3, 1987, at approximately 8:20 a.m. , plow truck # 7219-X-00027-2, a 1976 International dump truck complete with plow and wing, was travelling southbound on Best Road, Concession 7, Clarke, performing winter operations, when the one-way plow dug into an uneven section of the road causing the complete vehicle to skid across the road and flip onto its side in the ditch. The wingman sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment. The accident was inspected by the Durham Region Police and a copy of the Motor Vehicle Accident Report is on file in the Hampton Works Office for review. The truck had already been replaced in accordance with the 1986 Public Works Fleet Capital Budget and is scheduled to be sold at the 1987 Durham Region Auction. The replacement cost of a new vehicle complete with all equipment would be approximately $80,000.00. The estimated cost to repair the existing vehicle to road worthy condition is $16,493.70, while similar vehicles in an operating condition sold at the recent Regional auction at or near $10,000.00. Although our insurance coverage is for replacement value, the truck is repairable at $16,493.70. Therefore, in view of its present book value and the fact that a replacement has been acquired, staff have negotiated the opportunity for a cash settlement in the amount of $16,493.70, less $1,000.00 deductible. . . .3 (�f Qb) Page 3 Report No. WD-42-87 It is, therefore, recommended that the cash settlement be accepted and the truck, Unit No. 7219-X-00027-2, be disposed of at the 1987 Durham Region Sale as previously approved.
