At the Council Meeting of May 11, 1987, a request was made that an
information report be brought forward indicating the results of any meetings
that had taken place to address Mr. Kamin' s request for support.
REPORT:
On February 12, 1987, a meeting was arranged to discuss signing as it
related to the promotion of Mosport Park and was attended by Mr. Peter
Coghill of M.T.C. , Mr. Mike Bellamy of the Region of Durham, Mr. Harvey
Hudes and Mr. Jerry Priddle of Mosport Park, Mr. Larry Kotseff and Mr.
Gordon Ough of the Town of Newcastle.
The purpose of the meeting was to provide a forum in which the
representatives of Mosport Park could talk to all parties involved at the
same time to avoid the confusion of the overlapping of jurisdiction.
At the conclusion to the meeting, the Mosport Park representatives seemed
pleased with having met, had had M.T.C. and Region policies explained with
respect to tourist promotion as it relates to highway signage, and had
received direction as to what could be pursued. They were also assured that
signing of the rural roads in the Mosport Park area would be completed in
1987.
Recently, there was an enquiry from Mosport about whether or not the Town
owned property adjacent to Highway 35/115 on which an advertising sign could
be erected. Review of Town owned lands in the area indicated that it
appeared that no appropriate Town owned land on the east side of the Highway
35/115 was available.

Report No. WD-39-87
Staff spoke to M.T.C. regarding its policy on Highway 35/115 with respect to
signing and discovered that the classification of the newly constructed,
controlled access Highway 35/115 would not allow billboard signing close
enough to the highway to be of any use to Mosport. It was indicated to
staff that the transition period which would allow existing signs to remain
temporarily and also allow new signs to go up temporarily, extended to 1992.
This information and a contact person at the Port Hope M.T.C. Signs &
Permit Section were relayed to Mr. Hudes. Mr. Hudes thanked the Town for
their information to date, indicated that he would have someone visit the
Hampton Office to review the Town owned property map and would contact Port
Hope M.T.C. Office if he wished -to pursue the idea of erecting signage which
would have to come down by 1992.
Respectfully submitted, Recommended for presentation
to the Committee,
Gordon J. Ough, P. Eng. , LawrenceiE. Kotseff,
Director of Public Works. Chief A mi istrative Officer.

G.P.A. Minutes - 6 - December 15, 1986
Bernard Kamin, Vice President, Mosport Park, 68 Scollard Street,
Toronto, was present to -talk about road signage. Since Mosport
Park opened in 1961 , it` has become a major tourist attraction.
Because of the various motor sports held at the park, it attracts
the media, top drivers and international stars. The single most
important complaint is "How do you find the place." The park
is in operation for motor sports from April to October and
depending on snow conditions, throughout the winter. Mr. Kamin
asked for the Town's support in erecting appropriate signage,
because the park is important and deserves it. Some signs are
on the 401 but there should be some on the 401 east and west at
Liberty Street and the 115 intersection and on the 115 coming from
Peterborough. The signage on the road in front of Mosport, is
terrible.
