Report No. WD-31-87
REPORT:
The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority has recently offered to request
funding from the Ministry of Natural Resources for shoreline protection
works east of Newcastle Harbour in the area where the lakeshore erosion is
threatening Lakeshore Road. The authority also indicated that if funding
was secured that they would be interested in doing the design work and
project supervision, however, the specific amount of funding to be requested
has yet to be determined by the authority.
It was suggested that a formal resolution of Council from the Town of
Newcastle and from the Region of Durham indicating their support, in
principal , for a lakeshore erosion control project would give strength to
the request for funding.
The recommendations presented in this report are essentially indicated to
support the authority's request for funding. It is our understanding from
staff of the authority that this request would not commit the Town to any
expenditure.
Respectfully submitted,
Gordon J. Ough, P. Eng.,
Director of Public Works.
