SUBJECT: DURHAM REGION PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION
1985 SNOW PLOW COMPETITION
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That Council support the Public Works Association in
organizing the second annual Snow Plow Competition for
May 24th and May 25th, 1985; and,
3. That all' costs associated with the Town' s
participation in the Snow Plow Competition be in
accordance with the 1985 Public Works Budget
allocation for Memberships and Association Dues.

The Durham Public Works Association is organizing the second
annual Snow Plow Competition to be held at the Region' s
Oshawa/Whitby Depot on May 24th and May 25th, 1985. The
week of May 20th to May 25th has been designated as Public
Works Week and this is considered a very appropriate
activity to be held at that time.
The competition is to be open to the members of the
association and is designed to determine, through a series
of competitive tests, the competing team' s knowledge of
rules of the road, safety, alertness, and efficiency, as
well as their skill in handling a standard snow plow
equipped vehicle, through a marked course.
The Town of Newcastle will enter three Driver/Wingman teams,
one representing each Public Works Division.
The 1984 Snow Plow Competition held early in November, 1984,
proved to be a great success in providing friendly
competition among the area municipalities and in promoting
public awareness of the professionals involved in Public
Works activities.
It is , therefore, recommended that the Town of Newcastle
support the efforts of those involved in organizing the
competition by participating in the Durham Public Works
Association Snow Plow Competition.
