REPORT NO. : WD-25-85 SUBJECT: BOWMANVILLE BUSINESS CENTRE SIDEWALK SALE - JULY 18, 19, 20, 1985. i RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: 1. That conditional on the Bowmanville Business Centre . acquiring the necessary Road Occupancy Permits from the Works Department, approval be given to hold a Sidewalk Sale on July 18, 19, 20, 1985. 2. That on July 18 & 19, Temperance Street, from Church Street to just north of St. John' s Anglican Church, ,be. closed with the exception of a clear fire route; and, 3. That on July 20, King Street, from the west side of Division Street to the east side of Scugog Street, be closed with the exception of a clear fire route and access to Brock' s Service Centre; and, 4. That westbound Highway 2 traffic be detoured via Division, Church and Scugog Streets, and eastbound Highway 2 traffic be detoured via Scugog, Queen and Division Streets; and, r Page 2 REPORT NO. : WD-25-85 5. That advertisements of the road closures and detours be placed in the local newspapers; and, 6. That arrangements for placement and removal of barriers and signs be as in previous years, between the Works Department and the Bowmanville Business Centre; and, 7. That a copy of this report be forwarded to the Bowmanville Business Centre with the request that they make appropriate arrangements with the Works Department well in advance of their proposed event. REPORT: The attached correspondence has been received from the Bowmanville Business Centre requesting the Town 's concurrence and assistance in holding its annual sidewalk sale. Similar events have been held in previous years and arrangements made between the Bowmanville Business Centre and Works Department have worked out quite satisfactorily. These are outlined in the recommendations to this report. On this occasion it- has been suggest=ed ghat on Thursday and Friday that Temperance Street should be closed from Church Street to t=he St: . John' s Church propert=y (exclusive of King Street: ) to accommodate the amusement rides and a proposed street: dance . Then, on Sat=urday , as in past years , the downtown core area will become an open-air mall by closing-off t=he area bounded by Division Street , Church Street , and Scugog Road--including King St:reet , Temp- erance Street: and Silver Street , from 7 a. m. unt=il 4 p . m. Again Chis year it is expected t:hat: a number of local groups will join in this event: by displaying t:hei-r work or by demonst:rating their special service--including t=he .lire Depart=ment: , the Museum, the Library, the Lions Club, the Visual Arts Cent:re and the Mill . It is expected ghat: special arrangement:s will again be made to accom>lo- date the special circumstances relat:ed Co Brock' s Pet:ro-Can Service Centre . It is also expected t:hat there will not be any parking permitt:ediin the downtown at the meters during the three days of this sale . In recognition of t-he ext=ra tame required for bot=h local and Provin- cial approval , we would urge you to pursue this matter at: the earl- iest: possible date . We would also appreciate being kept- informed of development:s as they occur as this proposal progresses .
