ENG., DIRECTOR HAMPTON,ONTARIO TEL.(416)263-2231 LOB 1J0 987-5039 REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE MEETING OF JUNE 3, 1985. REPORT NO. : WD-37-85 SUBJECT: PUBLIC WORKS WEEK i RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully recommended: That this report be received for information. REPORT: In Report WD-26-85 (April 1, 1985) certain recommendations were made for recognition of Public Works Week, May 19-25th, inclusive. These included advertisements and proclamations in local newspapers, placement of posters in public buildings and correspondence with school boards inviting school tours. Response to this approach was light, however, there were a few telephone enquiries and there was a tour by the Grade 4 pupils of Central Public School , Bowmanville. . . . .2 f l' Page 2 REPORT NO. WD-37-85 Facilities in the Works Administration Office were reviewed and explained, and a tour of the Hampton Works Depot was arranged. Students were given Newcastle stickers (apple) and provided with refreshments. The response noted was quite enthusiastic and parents who provided transportation were very interested and surprised at the magnitude of responsibility of the Works Department. Of note is the fact that the general public has the misconception that there are hundreds of people employed in the Works Department while in fact there are only forty-five. In summary, the response to our advertisement of Public Works Week was not great, however, it is felt that the one tour which did take place will likely generate increased interest next year. Respectfully submitted, R.G. Dupuis , . Eng., Director of Public Works. RGD:jco May 28, 1985.
