SUBJECT: EXTENSION OF SERVICE
1/2 TON TRUCKS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is respectfully recommended:
1. That this report be received; and,
2. That the Department of Public Works be authorized to
extend the disposal date for two half-ton trucks,
j units 7219-X-00532-X and 7217-X-00502-X, replaced in
the 1984 Public Works Fleet Budget, to the 1986 Region
of Durham Public Auction; and,
3. That disposal of all other Public Works Fleet be in
accordance with the 1985 Fleet Capital Budget.

BACKGROUND & REPORT
In early January, 1985, the Public Works Department put into
service three 1985 Chevrolet, half-ton trucks, purchased as
replacement units for the following equipment:
Unit 7217 4-00501 4 - 1980 Chev 1/2 ton Pickup (Diesel )
Unit 7217 4-00502 4 - 1979 Ford 1/2 ton Pickup (Gas)
Unit 7219-X-00532-X - 1979 Ford 1/2 ton Pickup (Gas)
In accordance with the 1985 Public Works Fleet Budget, the
replaced half-ton trucks were to be disposed of at the
Region of Durham Equipment Auction scheduled for September
14th, 1985. Presently, three trucks are being utilized for
the transportation of men and equipment on various low
mileage activities which include engineering and survey for
Town construction, sidewalk maintenance, roadside hand
mowing, brushing and pavement patching. The trucks are
being utilized at the M.T.C. approved subsidy rate of
$3.30/hr.
The Public Works Department would like to extend the
disposal date for two of the three trucks. The two units to
be extended have received mechanical fitness checks and are
considered road worthy for the specified, limited, usage.
It is, therefore, recommended that the two half-ton trucks,
specifically units 7219 4-00532 4 and 7217 4-00502 4, remain
in limited service until September, 1986.
