THAT Report PD-277-87 be received; and 2. THAT the request for relief from the provisions of Section 8(2)(a)(iii), Sign By-law 76-25 to erect signs in excess of the number permitted be approved subject to a permit being approved. BACKGROUND: Steel Art Signs Limited on behalf of the Castle Hotel, Bowmanville has submitted an application to erect two (2) illuminated wall signs in excess of the number permitted in Sign By-law 76-25. As the building fronts on two (2) streets, King and Division, it is proposed to erect a wall sign on each frontage. The Division Street sign is approximately 16'8" x 2'8" (45 square feet) and the King Street sign is approximately 18'6" x 2'll" (54 square feet). Proposed colours are to be white, blue and black. Each sign will have the name Rumours Lounge on one (1) end and a building silhouette on the other. The centre section of each ...2 ,y~L~~ REPORT NO.: PD-277-87 PAGE 2 will have an area which will permit the changing of messages. Presently there are two (2) signs located on the building. On the west side near the rear of the building a sign approximately 2'6" x 20' with the name "The Little Pub". On the King Street side is an overhanging sign with the name "Castle Hotel". Section 8(2)(a)(iii) "Signs Per Lot" provides: "1 for each professional or business establishment plus 1 additional if the lot fronts on more than 1 street...." Steel Art Signs Limited on behalf of the Castle Hotel have therefore requested a variance from the Sign By-law provisions in order to erect the two (2) additional signs.
