3. Arena Mana,-er's Report In Brian's absence, the chair advised the members of
The following: Brian advises:
• All of the staff is now wearing CSA approved Safety Helmets on the ice
surface.
• Start-Up problems became an issue with a compressor motor burning out
immediately, as we turned it on. In addition, the same thing happened with
the Humicon in the south-west corner. Both pieces of equipment had to be
attended to costs-$8,400.00.
• All the other work that was approved by the board members had been
completed, including the lighting project. Moore Electric was processing
our application to Veridian for a rebate. The amount has yet to be
determined. Brian will follow-up and advise on the progress.
• Clarington Girls H.L. had paid up their arrears. Our Accounts
Receivables are now in good shape.
• Contract ice was in full progress as of October I s, 2011. Unfortunately,
NVMHA had to return their 10 to 11 P.M. time slot on Wednesday nights.
A decrease in their registration numbers had affected their scheduling.
This time-slot will be hard to fill, so late in the season and reflects
approximately, a$4,400.00 revenue loss for the 28-30 weeks of
scheduling.
4. Financial Report -The chair advised that we had cashed in part of our short-
term GIC in order to accommodate payment to Moore Electric for the lighting
conversion and our start-up costs. In excess of$30,000.00 was needed just for
Moore and a number of other start-up costs. Still outstanding are the Cimco
invoices, referred to above and$3,000.00 for plumbing repairs, along with
$1,200.00 to Jet Ice. Our operating account had a balance of only$14,634.23, as
of October 11`h. The chair advised: He had been in conversation with Burgess
Plumbing; disputing the labour cost charged to the arena. He is awaiting their
review and call-back before paying the invoice. In addition, he will bring up these
capital costs to Mr. Horvath to see if any financial assistance, from the
municipality could be forthcoming from the Operations Dept.
With contract ice just starting up in October, receivables wouldn't be significant
until sometime in November, once the statements are provide to our user groups.
There may be a further need to reduce our GIC and place additional funds in our
operating account to get us through November. Our winter operating payroll
includes 14 employees;full and part-time arena and snack bar.
Gord had advised Cimco, it would be late November before we would be able to
pay their invoices. We will need to be aggressive on our Accounts Receivable to
get our operating account back to a manageable level. We also have a$30,000.00
loan payment due to the Municipality, at year-end 2011. A current income
statement and accounts receivable list was also provided to all in attendance.
S. Business Follow-Up from Previous Meetin,-s Good news was the order of the
night, with regard to our LobbyBleacher Seating. Gord Blaker advised: he had
received a call advising that construction was completed, painting was all that
was left to complete and they would be finished reasonably soon. Considering
they are a donation to the area board, our position is to be patient and await their
arrival and installation -even though we have been waiting a full season for their
completion. No other business was discussed and a motion to adjourn was tabled
Motion #11-130 was proposed: THAT.• the meeting is adjourned.
