By -Law No. 69 -23
A by -law to amend By -Law No. 1710, being
a by -law to provide for biennial elections.
WHEREAS an Act amending the Secondary Schools and Boards of Education
Act was passed by the Legislature in 1968 establishing Divisional Boards of
Education;
AND WHEREAS the said Act provided that an election of members of a
divisional board shall take place in 1968 and in every second year thereafter;
AND WHEREAS an election of members of council and public utilities
commission is held every second year with the next election being held in
1969;
AND WHEREAS Council deems it desirable to award their term of office
to coincide with that of members elected to the divisional board of education;
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Bowmanville
hereby ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That By -Law No. 1710 be amended as follows:
(a) To allow and there shall be in 1969 an election of members
to Council for a three year term of office
(b) The next election shall be in 1972 and the members elected
shall hold office for a term of two years
(c) That elections thereafter shall be held every second year
2. That members of the public utilities commission shall be elected at
the same time and hold office for the same term as the members of
council.
3. That this by -law shall come into force and take effect on the final
passing thereof.
READ a first, second and third time and finally passed this
1969.
