HomeMy WebLinkAbout70-6THE CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF BOWMANVILLE By -Law No. 70- - A by -law to authorize a levy on the whole of the assessment for real property and business prior to adoption of the annual estimates. WHEREAS the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Bowmanville deems it a convenience to the taxpayer and economical to adopt a system of interim tax billing, NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of Bowmanville, pursuant to the provisions of Section 294a of The Municipal Act, R.S.O., 1960, Chapter 249, hereby ENACTS. AS FOLLOWS: 1. There shall be levied on the whole of the assessment for real property and business according to the last revised assessment roll and before the adoption of the estimates for the year, a sum nct exceeding 50 per cent of that which would be produced by applying to such assessment the total rate for all purposes levied in the preceeding year on residential real property of public school supporters. 2. The taxes so levied shall be deemed to have been imposed and become due and payable on the lst day of January in each year, but may be paid in three instalments, the first instalment being due on or about the 2nd day of March, the second instalment due on or about the 15th day of April, and the third instalment due on or about the 1st day of June. 3. There shall be imposed a penalty for non - payment of any taxes on the due date of any instalment thereof, the amount of one -half of 1 per cent of the amount due and unpaid on the first day of default and an additional one -half of 1 per cent shall be added on the first day of each calendar month thereafter in which default continues, but not after the end of the year in which the taxes are levied. 4. The Collector is hereby authorized to mail or cause to be mailed the notice of taxes due to the address of the residence or place of business of the person to whom notice is required to be ;given. 5. This by -law shall come into force and effect upon the date of the final reading thereof. s READ a first, second and third time and finally passed this day of 1970. u Mayor r Clerk
