BY -LAW NO. 1997
Being a by -law to authorize a
project in Observance and
Commemoration of the Centennial.
WHEREAS the Confederation Centennial Act, 1962/63 provides
that Municipal Councils may make expenditures for or grants toward
the observance or the commemoration of the Centennial;
AND WHEREAS it is desirable to observe and commemorate the
Centennial by:
(1) Constructing, erecting and installing basketball and soft -
ball backstops, wading pool and playground equipment in
the Lord Elgin park on Fourth Street,
(2) Constructing, erecting and installing fencing, flood lighting,
a picnic shelter and playground equipment in Memorial Park
on Liberty Street.
NOW THEREFORE the Council of the Corporation of the Town of
Bowmanville hereby ENACTS AS FOLLOWS:
1. That in observance and commemoration of the Centennial, the
Corporation shall (1) construct, erect and install basketball and
softball backstops, wading pool and playground equipment at an
estimated cost of $6,653.00 in Lord Elgin Park, and,
(2) construct, erect and instal fencing, flood
lighting, picnic shelter and playground equipment at an estimated
cost of $15,247.00 in Memorial Park.
2. That the Mayor and Clerk be and they are hereby authorized
and directed to make applications pursuant to the provisions of the
regulations made under the Confederation Centennial Act, 1962/63 for
a grant in aid of the project.
3. That the municipality's contribution toward the net cost of
the project shall be included in the 1967 budget estimates.
4. That the ultimate responsibility of project maintenance and
upkeep shall rest with the municipality.
