REPORT ON REQUEST OF MR. D. J. PLITZ,
Res Closing of Streets in Burketon.
This request from the purchaser of the former school site in
Burketon, shown in blue on the attached plan, involves the closure
and conveyance of two streets and a lane abutting the said school
site. These streets and lane are shown in orange on the plan.
They are streets in an old plan of subdivision (1885).
This request was referred to the Works Committee and the
Planning Advisory Committee. The Worts Committee have already
advised Council not to close the two streets indicated and Council
have approved in priciple the closure of the lane.
We concur with the decision not to close the two streets as it
would be premature to close any existing street in the hamlet
until such time as a detailed plan for the whole hamlet is
completed.
We also concur with the decision to close up the lane which
traversesethe property. The applicant only discovered the
existence of this lane after he purchased the land from the school
Board, who apparently had used it as part of the school yard for
years without ever taking action to have it closed. The applicant
has already divided the land fronting on Sougog Street by severance
and has now applied also to divide the other parcel. The lane
p
is oily 16.5 feet wide and will serve no useful purpose other
than as a strip of land between four houses which the Municipality
may have to keep clean and out the grass. The land will be used
to enlarge one of the adjacent lots when the lane is closed.
I would recommend that this Committee concur in the decisions
of the Works Committee and Council on this matter,
Respectfully Submitted,
George F. Howden,
Planning Director,
