M E Z• O_LA_A D U M-- No. 46
TO:
Bruce Tink, Chairman of the Public Works Committee
FROM:
Jack Dunham, Director of Public Works Department
DATE:
April 26, 1976
SUBJECT:
Parking and Sidewalk in front of the Public Library
Temperance Street, Bowmanville
The above subject was referred to the Public
Works Committee for a report and recommendation.
Mrs. Pat best, Chairman of the Library Board, has
requested that off street parking be provided
immediately in front of the Library. To permit
parking in front of the Library could possibly
create a traffic problem, also, this would not do
justice to the building itself.
However, I would recommend that consideration
be given to removing three (3) existing parking'
meters adjacent to the Library and permit a one
hour parking limit. This space would be adsquate
for approximately four cars, being a distance of
82 feet in length. On the north side of the
Library a short driveway could be considered for
book delivery and one staff member.
The second request was for a sidewalk on the
west side of Tempdrance Street from Church Street
'to the Library itself. From Church Street to the
north entrance of the Library is a distance of
213 feet. Total distance from Church Street to
Wellington. Street is 329 feet. In considering a
sidewalk on Temperance Street the total distance
should be considered being 329 feet at an estim-
ated cost of $5.00 per foot= $1,645.00. If con-
sidering only the 213 feet at an estimate cost
of $5.00 per foot= $1,065.00.
In summary, I would recommend consideration be
given to a driveway in 1976 estimate cost of $250•°p'
and consideration be given to the sidewalk in
1977 at budget time.
