TO: I Bruce Tink, Chairman of Public Works Committee
FROAi: J. Dunham, Director of Public Works
DATE: January 20, 1976
SUBJECT: Improvements to Station Street, Orono
At a Planning Advisory meeting on January 127
1976, the above mentioned subject was tabled
pending a report relative to improvements
that may be required on that part of Station
Street from Mill Street to the western bound-
ary of the subject site.
In 1975 a legal description of the subject
road; was obtained through a land surveyor.
Also, on September 269 1975, Mr.. Best and my-
self met with the Ministry in regards to ac-
quiring the portion now owned by them.
At that meeting the Ministry did agree verbally
in conveying the 100 foot access to the Munic-
ipality. They did say however, it would take
approximately 6 months. The portion of the
subject site owned by the railroad has been in
our solicitors hands for some time now.
Since at the present time this access or road
has no legal status as far as the Municipality
is concerned, I cannot recommend any further
financial action until the Municipality acquires
the necessary lands for a road allowance and
has assumed the same by By-law designating it
a public highway for public use.
Any estimate of improvements without prelimin-
ary engineering would not be realistic. In
reading report #186 of the Planning Department,
I note that the Region2l Works Department has
a concern in regards to water.
The following are my recommendations:
1) That the developer acquire the necessary
lands for road purposes.
2) That the developer construct the road to
a design approval by the Municipality.
(continued). . .
. . . 2
3) That the developer convey to the Munic-
ipality the road allowance.
4) That the Municipality assume the road
allowance by By-law designating it a pub-
lic highway for public use,
5) The above recommendations to be at no cost
to the Town.

Improvements to Station Street, Orono
This is to advise that the Planning Ad-
visory Committee passed the following
resolution No. P-3-76 at its meeting on
January 12, 1976.
"That Report No. 186 be tabled pend-
ing a report from the Director of
Public Works relative to improve-
ments that may be required on that
part -of Station Street from Mill
Street to the western boundary of the
subject site".
A copy of Report No. 186 is enclosed.
Since the improvements to Station Street
which are being considered are intended
to give access to a 4o unit Senior Citi-
zens Housing projects you should consider
the need for a sidewalk and street light-
ing in your report.
A cost estimate for any recommended im-
provements would he helpful, including
any portion eligible for subsidy.
