In Division Three there are nine existing mobile units and two base stations. It would be my recommendation that the existing systems be integrated and additional units be obtained for Division Two. Total mobiles required - 23. Total bases required - 4. This system would be rental as existed in the past. P•Iobile rental is $$27.25 per unit per month. Base rental is $29.50 per unit per month. This rate includes the use of a repeater, an antenna and air time. All insurance and maintenance is also included. The cost of integrating nine units would be at j$40.00 each which is the lessor in number to change. TELEPHONE: It would be my recommendation that the telephone number in Division Two be removed from the Town Hall and connected in such a manner that it rings in the Town Garage. Also that all public works phone numbers be published in the local newspapers, COLOUR OF EQUIP,-1ENT AND NAME: I would recommend that all trucks be red and the name "Town of Newcastle" be yellow letters with a black background. Three inch letters. Other equipment colours which are mostly yellow remain as such. Some trucks that are one or two years from replacement, with the exception of the name, could remain their existing colour. TRANSPORTATION: The Superintendent in Divisions 1 and 3 present transportation is by his own private automobile which he is paid mileage for. I would recommend for the time being this remain. The Superintendent in Division 2 is presently using his own private automobile which we will pay mileage for. I recommend that a -g ton truck be supplied for this purpose in Division 2. ...2 Page 2 At the present time I am using a municipally owned a ton truck. I would recommend that this unit be used in Division 2 for the Superintendent and that I be permitted to use a privately owned automobile. All existing foremen in Divisions 1, 2 and 3 now use municipally owned e ton trucks. I would recommend no change in this respect. PUPCHAS ING It would be my recommendation that all purchasing be done through the Public Works Office. However to maintain an efficient operation Superintendents and Foremen should have authority to purchase various items by way of purchase orders up to a fixed amount of $200.00 for Superintendents and $50.00 for Foremen. Most items will be tendered, smaller items by invited quotations. Amount open for discussion, J, Dunham Director of Public Works. JD/ps
