HomeMy WebLinkAboutEngineering Memo Mar 9-76„.-;” ' r, M E M O R A N D U M TO: Bruce Tink, Chairman of Public Works Committee FROM: John Ferguson, C.E.T., Engineering Department DATE: March 91 1976 SUBJECT: Closing of lanes within the former Town of Bowman - Ville At the past Public Works Committee meeting, the item referring to the unopened lane running south from Third Street toward Second Street and lying between Elgin Street on the west and High Street on the eastq which was referred from the Committee of the Whole. This item was tabled pending fur- ther information from the Committee. I have now checked into this matter further and can find no document actually stating that the Laneway belongs to the Town of Bowmanvlle. This laneway can only be found on the Lockhart -Simpson Plan of Subdivision dated 1893 for the Town of Bowmanville. I have also checked with all utility companies and all have verified that they do not have any plants within this laneway. The Town of Newcastle and the Region of Durham also do not have any plants in this laneway." I have also spoken with M. Brown on this laneway and he stated that many people who back onto this laneway do not even realize that it is there and have built small buildings onto this laneway. Therefore, I would recommend that the Town close the laneway in its entirety and dispose of it by way of QUIT CLAIM DEEDS as the owners of the pro- perties are renewed. This would mean closing the laneway in Blocks A9 B, C, and D as according to the Lockhart -Simpson Plan being a width of 11.88 feet wide in Lot 129 Concession 2 of the former Town of Bowmanville. This would mean that the Municipality would be re- quired to advertise the closing and pay for any administration and advertising costs which would la- ter he recovered from the future owners.
