MEMORANDUM --No. 39
TO: Bruce Tink, Chairman of Public VTorks Committee
FROM: John Ferguson, C.F.T., Engineering Department
DATE: May 41 1976
SUBJECT: Walkways with Subdivisions
At the present time, in many of the subdivisions,
I am receiving many complaints from residences adj-
acent to walkways.
The problem seems to he that small cars are using
these walkways as short-cuts to get from one road to
another. Several times, children have been playing
on the walkway and must get very close to the fence
to avoid being struct by the car. Many of the resi-
dents are very upset over this problem and would
appreciate some response to this problem.
In the proposed Town Standards the total walkway
width has been reduced to 10 _feet with a footpath
width of only 5 feet.
The main problem area seems to be in the Waverly
Road area, as in this area some of the curb and gut -
not been constructed and there is easy ter has Y acc
ess into the walkways.
Therefore, I would recommend that signs be placed
at each end of the walkway not permitting through
traffic. If this solution does not work then barr-
iers will also be required at each end of the
walkways.
