SUBJECT: FILLING OF VACANCY
ARENA OPERATOR III,
DARLINGTON SPORTS CENTRE

RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That Council authorize the filling of the Arena Operator III
position at the Darlington Sports Centre in accordance with
the provisions of the Collective Agreement for Outside Workers.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
In accordance with the 1983 Budget Guidelines, subject of Report ADMIN.
82 - 90, Council may wish to review the filling of all vacancies within
the permanent union and non -union staff complement.
With the adoption of the 1983 Budget Guidelines, the filling of the
Arena Operator III position would become a vacancy subject to review.
Staff feel that the Arena Operator III position should be filled as soon
as possible in order to avoid any disruption to basic service in the
Darlington Sports Centre. Staff feel that the position is required to
meet basic service requirements in the facility as it is one of three
operator positions covering the two shift per day operations of the facility.
The Arena Operators have general responsibilities in the following areas:
1. Answering enquiries; booking of the facilities,
issuance of receipts; building security and key control.
2. Building maintenance; including general repairs
(maintenance of equipment and building) and custodial
duties.

3. Care and maintenance of the Refrigeration System,
including monitoring of system. Includes care
of ice surface.
4. Supervisory duties; supervision of part-time
rink attendants.
The vacancy has arisen through the loss of Mr. J. Woodley; a long
time and very valued employee of the Community Services Department.
