MEETING OF JULY 22, 1982
ADMIN. NO: 82 - 58
SUBJECT: JOINT PROMOTION OF THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE,
ONTARIO HYDRO AND THE TOWN OF NEWCASTLE
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That the Committee consider and discuss the possibilities
of executing a Supplementary Agreement with Ontario Hydro
in respect of the "Promotion of the Town".
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Staff and Members of Council have recently held discussions requesting the
continued promotion of the Town of Newcastle, following on the Town's recent
"Promotion Day".
Discussions between Town Council and staff centered on the following points:
1. Promotion of the Town in all respects aids in the
potential for developing industry and commerce
related to the Generating Station. (heat
utilization).

2. Ontario Hydro is a major employer in the Town,
and the station itself is, and will be a major
attraction for visitors to the Town. The station
creates a demand for the provision of information
and programs about the community.
3. The Town is limited in its authority to promote
industrial development, but can and should promote
the other aspects of "life in Newcastle".
4. The Town could and appropriately would have a full
time person available on a consulting or contract
basis, for undertaking promotional programs and
co-ordinating community events.
5. A budget for the contract person/consultant is
necessary including funding for programs.
