MEETING OF JULY 5, 1982
SUBJECT: EMPLOYMENT INCENTIVE GRANT APPLICATION
REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDING
NEWCASTLE ARENA, HAMPTON HALL
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That Council receive this report; and
2. That the attached application for the "Ontario
Employment Incentive Program" requesting
additional funding be forwarded to the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and
that the following resolution be adopted and
forwarded with the application:
"The Town of Newcastle hereby requests the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing to
approve the attached application for additional
employment incentive grant funding."

On the basis of the discussions at the General Purpose and Administration
Committee meeting of June 28, 1982 in respect of the "Hampton Hall", and on
the basis of a submission by the Newcastle Arena Board, staff have prepared
the attached application for additional funding under the "Employment
Incentive Program".

The attached letter has been forwarded to the Ministry in advance of the
June 30, 1982 program deadline, to advise them of the Town's additional
funding request.
It is suggested that the additional application should be forwarded to the
Ministry as soon as possible. If additional funds as outlined are not
approved, Council may wish to consider adjustments to the original list of
projects.
The material costs in the attached applications are not included with the
1982 current budget. Council may wish to discuss the funding of "materials"
portions of these projects with the community groups involved.

On June 22, 1982 the Town of Newcastle forwarded an application for an
Employment Incentives Grant to the Ministry, totalling $91,050;00 slightly
in excess of the Ministry's allocation of $90,850.00.
Since that application was submitted two community groups have expressed
interest in renovating a community hall and a local arena, we therefore
anticipate submitting a further application for funds, as soon as labour
and material cost estimates has been prepared.
It is respectfully requested that this additional application be considered
for funding in conjunction with the application of June 22, 1982.
Your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
