REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF JUNE 14, 1982

SUBJECT: ONTARIO EMPLOYMENT
INCENTIVE PROGRAM
APPLICATION FOR GRANT
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That Committee receive this report; and
2. That the attached application for the "Ontario
Employment Incentive Program" be forwarded to
the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
and that the following resolution be adopted
and forwarded with the application:
"The Town of Newcastle hereby notifies the
Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing
that there are a number of projects that
would appear to meet the Employment Incentive
Program criteria as outlined on the attached
application and that the Town would anticipate
using all of the funds allocated."
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
The attached material has been forwarded to the Town and reviewed by the Staff
Committee.
Briefly, the Ontario Government has announced the "Employment Incentive
Program" whereby the Town may receive a grant of up to $90,850.00 for labour
costs associated with projects to "repair and renovate public property."
The Town is required to file an application by June 30, 1982.

Staff feel it would be appropriate to apply for projects that have been
included in the 1982 budget, but not yet proceeded with, in order to ensure
that the material costs not covered by the program have been anticipated. In
the case of the "Town Hall" the proposed expenditures would require a draw of
funds from the "facilities improvement reserve" to cover the cost of materials.
The application prepared by staff includes a request approximately equal to the
grant allocation.
