REPORT TO THE GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE
MEETING OF MAY 31, 1982
ADMIN. NO. 82-37
SUBJECT: CLARKE MUSEUM BOARD FEASIBILITY STUDY
RECOMMENDATIONS:
1. That this report be received; and
2. That a meeting be convened with the Clarke Museum Board,
Members of Council and staff to discuss the Board's
proposed feasibility study.
At the Council meeting of May 10, 1982 staff were directed to bring forward a
report on the actions taken by the Clarke Museum Board in respect of a
"feasibility study" for the future possible expansion of the Kirby School
House Museum.
As members of Council are aware, staff have written to the Chairman of the
Museum Board in respect of their feasibility study and, as per the letter
of May 4, 1982 attached suggest that a meeting be convened to discuss the
Museum Board's plans.
All related correspondence is attached for information.

A special meeting of the Boardwas held in Orono, Monday, April 12th, 1982,
to discuss a new five-year plan for the Clarke Museum E Archives.
Present: D. Barnett, R. Dickson, H. Schmid, .Donna 8 Don Robins, C. Martin.
D. Layng was also present and took the.minutes.
Absent: E. Woodyard, D. Hamre.
The most cohesive plan offered was by Don and. Donna Robins, which outlined
a goal for 1982, to phyically secure the Kirby Schoolhouse, upgrading its
insulation etc., and provided a plan for developing an adjunct building
on the property at Kirby. This physical expansion would be complemented
by corresponding expansions of publicity, fund-raising and personnel.

Various aspects of the Kirby property were discussed. The requirements
for the feasibility study demanded by the Ministry of Culture 6
Renreation were also queried.
Moved by R. Dickson, seconded by Donna Robins, that D. Layng write to
the Town of Newcastle and inquire about the planning study on all
Toan property buildings proposed by Council at a meeting with the Clarke
Museum Board, March 23, 1981. Is the Town going ahead with this study?
D. Layng is also to write to the Ministry of Culture E Recreation and ask
for guidelines for developing a feasibility study. Motion carried.
The Museum Board intends to apply for a Wintario grant to cover half of
the cost of such a study as soon as possible.
According to present information; the east section of St. Saviour's will e
:retained as a link between the church and a portable which will Le used �
for the.new Sunday School room.

Layng was approved; it was decided to have them printed by the Orono

In memory of Bob Hancock, who died April 8th, two suggestions were made to
commemorate the work he, did for the Museum, as one .of_its_found'ers, and as
one of its most active workers. He will be greatly missed by all of -us
^onnected with the Clarke Museum:
