NO. 82-12 SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR INFORMATION - MR. A. WOTTEN RECOMMENDATIONS: 1. That this report be received for information; and 2. That a copy of this report be forwarded to Mr. A. Wotten by Council, in reply to his request for information of February 1 1982. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: Mr. A. Wotten appeared before Council on February 1 1982 and enquired as to the timing of the placement of job advertisements for the position of Director of Public Works. Revised job descriptions for both the positions of Director of Planning (held by the Administrator since August 1 1981) and the Director of Public Works (vacant since November 28 1981) were forwarded to the first General Purpose and Administration Committee meeting of 1982 via Administrator's report 82-1. The job descriptions were introduced under cover of the same report in order to demonstrate the relationship between the two positions. The job descriptions redefining theduties, responsibilities and qualifications of the existing positions were adopted, by the General Purpose and Administration Committee at the January 11th meeting. On the basis of the Committee's decision (unanimous) and the inclusion within Report 82-1 of the statement "It is intended that these positions will be posted internally and advertised externally, as may be appropriate, as soon as possible," the administration proceeded to arrange for the posting of ..2 ADMIN. NO. 82-12 -2- the positions and in the case of the Director of Public Works position, to arrange for the advertising of the vacancy in the Globe and Mail (Monday, January 18th and Saturday, January 23rd 1982) and the Oshawa Times (January 18 1982). It is noted that the job advertisements do not include the job descriptions as approved by Committee (and adopted by By-law by Council), but as is appropriate, included only a brief statement of duties.
