CONFERENCE, ROYAL YORK HOTEL, TORONTO AUGUST 23 - AUGUST 26, 1987 ~%,'- r it, r~, ,,~ ',r RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That Report CD-29-87 be received; and 2. That the Town of Newcastle appoint four (4) Voting Delegates to represent the Municipality at the Conference; and 3. That the Clerk be directed to advise the Association of Municipalities of Ontario of the names of the Town's Delegates. BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: The Annual A.M.O. Conference is scheduled for the period from August 23rd to August 26th 1987, and will be held at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. I would advise, that as was the case last year, accommodation reservations and Conference Registration requests must be made through the A.M.O. Offices. A.M.O. cannot guarantee that accommodation will be available in the Royal York Hotel for delegates who register after July 24th 1987. All delegates are also required to pay a room deposit of $90.00. (Payable to A.M.O.) Continued ...../2 Report CD-29-87 - 2 - May 1~, 1987 ~/~ %~ <~~ With respect to Voting Delegates, the Town of Newcastle falls within the 15,000 to 49,999 population category and is, therefore, entitled to appoint four (4) voting delegates. All appointments must be by Council Resolution and the Association advised as soon as possible. Copies of the Voting Delegates Registration Form and Delegate information relating to the Conference is attached for information. As we would like to have accuracy and uniformity in our delegates' badges, your attention to this form would be appreciated. Please complete the form whether or not you require accommodation. All other registrants will receive typed conference badges. DEADLINE FOR CONFERENCE RESOLUTIONS - TUESDAY, JUNE 9th, 1987 All members are reminded that the deadline for submitting resolutions to AMO for the Annual Conferene is June 9th, 1987. Resolutions received after this date will not be printed in the resolutions book, but may appear in the Late Resolutions Report, and will be debated as last priority. Municipalities submitting late emergency resolutions to AMO, after July 24th, 1987, must forward to AMO sufficient number of typed copies for distribution on the conference floor. over.../ Received after July 24, 1987 r .~.--- ~~'~,, 1, ~~ l 1987 ACCOMMODATION RATES A special rate has been extended by the Royal York Hotel to the Association for our Annual Conference as follows: Single: $82.00 Twin or Double: $94.00 "Single" means a room occupied by one person only. "Double" means a room occupied by two people. Three or more to a room costs regular rate, plus $16.00 for a fold-away bed. There is no charge for children 14 years of age and under occupying room with one or both parents. If one or more children are accompanied by both parents and more than one room is required, the single rate will apply for each room. OTHTR ACCOMMODATION AVAILABLE Studio suites $ 170.00 Small suites 210.00 Medium suites 250.00 Large suites 345.00+ A STUDIO SUITE consists of a parlour and bedroom, divided by a lattice partition. A SMALL SUITE consists of a parlour accommodating 10 people (standing) and one bedroom. A MEDIUM SUITE consists of a parlour accommodating 20 people (standing) and one bedroom. This form is supplied to your council for the purpose of registering its allottment of voting delegates for the Conference. In this regard, we request that you observe the following procedures: 1. 1987 AMO membership fees must be paid by May 31st, 1987 in order to qualify for your allotted number of voting delegates. 2. Voting delegates must be appointed by council resolution and the registration form certified by the Clerk of your municipality. 3. In the event of a change in the council appointment of voting delegates, the changes must be submitted by certified notice. 4. A voting delegate shall have one vote only. 5. Please complete the attached form and return to the Association offices as quickly as possible.
