POLL BOUNDARY RE-ALIGt1~4EP,T TO~1N OF NE6JCASTLE RECOMWIENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That Clerk's Report CD-43-87 be received for information. BACKGROUI~dD AND COi~1~~1ENT: The i~lunicioal Elections Act provides in Section 17 that:' ". the Clerk shall divide the municipality into polling subdivisions", and Section 18 provides that as far as is practicable", a polling subdivision shall not "contain more than 350 electors." P~embers of the General Purpose and Administration Committee will recall, that the need for poll boundary re-alignment has been discussed and referred to as a project to be undertaken during budget discussions and in a memorandum circulated under the date of February 20th 1987, entitled the "Process for Establishing or Re-organizing the lJards in the f~lunicipality." Continued ...../2 .-----°~ Report CD-43-37 - 2 - July G, 1987 ~° C~ ~ Council adopted the goals and objective statement of the Clerk's Department contained in the 1987 Current Budget and further, authorized an allocation of $2,000.00 to cover the Town's portion of a student's salary. I wish to advise Members of the Committee, that a student has been hired and the poll boundary re-alignment program has begun. It is anticipated that the program will be completed in-house by the end of August, at which time the new poll alignment will be reviewed by the Regional Assessment Office and any minor adjustments made. The entire process should be completed by the end of 1987 or early in 1988. It is recommended that this report be received for information. Respectfully submitted David GJ.
