Mary Jane provided the Committee with a copy and a brief overview of the Group Housing Policy in its draft form. Ms. Bacon advised the Committee the Group Housing Policy still has areas that require further investigation and will try to have a finalized policy in the near future. She outlined the pre-assessment which will be performed on the cats before they would be placed in the group housing room and the guidelines the Animal Shelter would be following with regards to the group housing of cats. Ms. Bacon briefly described the on-going monitoring as well as the procedures for removal of the cats from the group housing area, sanitation and ventilation of the group housing area. She will visit the Newmarket Shelter and obtain information from them on how they implemented the Group Housing room in their facility. Ms. Bacon welcomed any relevant input from the Committee which they feel should be included in this policy. The Animal Advisory Committee -2- November 12, 2008 members confirmed a maximum of 8 cats in the area, and two litter boxes should be sufficient, with more to be added if necessary.
