HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004-12-08 Minutes ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held on December 8, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. at the Clarington Animal Shelter ROLL CALL Present: John Stoner, Vice Chair Sheila Elkington, Sr. Animal Services Officer Karen Lyle, Animal Services Officer Councillor Adrian Foster Charmanine Dunn Laurie Davis, Durham Animal Adoption Julie Price Helen Koseck, Bowmanville Veterinary Clinic Marie Knight Stanley, Deputy Clerk Absent: Kathleen Blundell, Chair Byron Rehder Candice Doiron, Secretary John Stoner chaired the meeting. 1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES Moved by Laurie Davis, seconded by Sheila Elkington THAT the minutes of the meeting held on September 8, 2004 be approved. 2. DISCUSSION OF PRESENTATION Marie lead the committee through the slide presentation from Terry Graham, Newcastle Lion’s Club regarding Status of Newcastle “Doggie Park”. 3. Marie advised that Clarington had a meeting of all the Municipal Shelters in the Region of Durham as well as the new Shelter of Hope and the Durham Humane Society regarding the proposed provincial legislation regarding pitbulls. They advised that if the legislation is passed they will NOT be amending their Municipal By-laws. Several Animal Groups will be challenging the new provincial legislation when it is passed. Animal Advisory Committee -2- December 8, 2004 4. Sheila advised that when an animal needs to be quarantined the expense will be the shelter’s. Sheila will comment to other shelters at the Municipal Shelter’s Administrative meeting regarding their stand on the quarantine situation. 5. PETLYNX Sheila will provide an update regarding petlynx for the next meeting. 6. The next Quarterly Report will be placed on the next agenda for committee’s information. 7. OTHER BUSINESS This will advise that the following resolution was passed on December 8, 2004 by the Animal Advisory Committee: Moved by Julie Price, seconded by Councillor Adrian Foster “THAT the Municipal Clerk advise Mr. Byron Rehder that he is being removed from the Animal Advisory Committee because he has been absent from the Animal Advisory Meetings for three consecutive meetings without being authorized to do so by a resolution of the Committee as stated in the Protocol for Committees of Council; and THAT the Municipal Clerk bring forward the name(s) of suitable candidate(s) for appointment to the Animal Advisory Committee.” “CARRIED” th 8. Next meeting will be on January 12, 2005 located at the Clarington Animal Shelter. 9. Adjourned at 3:45 pm.
