CD-52-85 FILE #: 77.39.2. SUB,ECT: PARKING - BOWMANYILLE COMMERCIAL AREA ~' RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that this report be received for information. BAGKGROUND AND COMMENT: During the past year, staff have been discussing parking related activities in the commercial area of the Bowmanville urban area with the Members of the B.I.A, Board of Management. We (the C.A.O. and the writer) have met with the President of the B.L.A. and the Parking Committee Chairman on a number of occasions and have, we believe, reached a consensus on what must, or should be done about. parking ifi the commercial area. A position. paper was prepared and distributed to the President of the B.L.A., the Chairman of the Parking Committee, the Mayor as Council's representative on the B.I.A. and the C.A.O. The purpose of the paper was to lay the groundwork for discussion of the matters detailed in it and as the initiator of the project, the Mayor was asked to convene and chair a meeting at which the issues could be addressed. The B.I.A. chose instead to circulate the discussion paper to the Members of the Board of Management, who have met and are formulating the B.I.A.'s response to the matters raised in the paper. I am advised, that the response to the issues will be firmed up at the next meeting of the B.I.A. Board of Management scheduled-for November 5, 1985, and their formal reply will be delivered shortly thereafter. Continued ...../2 ,,85 - 2 - November 4, 1985 U ~ I Cd 5 .~ When the B.I.A. response is received, a report will be prepared for the General Purpose and Administration Committee's consilderation and the report will contain the B.I.A. Board of Management's position on the issues. I apologize for the delay in reporting upon this most important subject. However, recognizing that the merchants through the B.I.A. have an important role to play in the process, the. preparation of a report for your consideration without their input would be unacceptable. I would, therefore, request that the Committee receive this report for information at this time. Respectfully submitted, , k David W. Oakes, B. A.,A.M.C.T.,C.M.O., Town. Clerk. OWO/ms •
