Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held on
November 10, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. at the Clarington Animal Shelter

Councillor Foster chaired the meeting.
As there was no quorum, the meeting continued as an informal session.
Councillor Foster read the letter of resignation of Marie Knight Stanley
1. PRESENTATION
Terry Graham, Newcastle Lions Club and Peter Windlolf made a
presentation regarding Doggie Parks and gave an outline as follows of
what has been accomplished in Belleville:
?
5 acre park – 3 acres for large dogs, 2 acres for small dogs
?
this park has been operational for about five years
?
$15,000 seed money has already been repaid to town through
memberships
?
Belleville should be the model used as it is a success
?
Features of this park include:
bags and receptacles for stoop and scoop
o
lots of large trees
o
a donation box
o
porta-potti for users of the park
o
bus shelter (inclement weather)
o
hydrant
o

signage (by-law)
o
membership display board
o
membership pamphlet (do’s and don’ts, cost to join etc.)
o
Peter Windolf mentioned that a potential site could be at the corner of
Hwy#2 and Rudell Road in Newcastle Village which is an undeveloped
school and park site. There could be the potential to include a leash-free
park in Phase 1 stage development of this site, comments will be
submitted through Peter Windolf.
2. NEW BUSINESS
Sheila Elkington mentioned that the Durham Region Health requires the
Municipality to provide a Quarantine Service. Whether an animal is
quarantined at a kennel, or a veterinary clinic, the Municipality pays the
quarantine fee for the mandatory 10 day period.
