ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee
held on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ante Room

1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Moved by Sheila Elkington, seconded by Laurie Davis
THAT the minutes of a regular meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held
on April 10, 2002 be approved.
"CARRIED"
2. ANIMAL LICENCING SERVICES INC.
Council has approved contract with Mark Stewart of Animal Licencing Services
Inc. for selling dog/cat licences door to door within Clarington.
3. SCUGOG EMERGENCY PLAN
Sheila is attending meetings in Scugog regarding a mock emergency exercise
requiring evacuation for residents and their pets. There will be a trial run on June
7 t Portable kennels will be set up adjacent to the residents area.
Discussion was held regarding the iodine pills available to residents and Dr.
Mingram is going to inquire as to the proper dosage for the pets.

4. UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A question was brought up as to who is responsible for an animal who digs under
neighbours fence and chases their pet around the yard. Onus is on the owner of
the pet who gets out of own yard.
Dr. Mingram stated there would be no rabies clinic in this area this year.
Sheila stated Oshawa This Week is taking picture of newborn kitten to put in
paper to coincide with Pet Ownership Week in May.
Sheila wanted to bring everyone's attention to the fact if anyone adopts a pet thru
pet finder, they would be given a two month free insurance policy. Reasonable
prices will kick in after if you wish to purchase additional insurance for your pet.
A group of residents donated pet food and toys on behalf of a neighbour who
recently passed away. Also, two little girls had a yard sale and donated $28.00 to
the Shelter.
Tara brought to our attention the tethering laws in British Columbia, how they are
are changing and will send Tara further information.
Interviewing co-op students for the Shelter next week.
5. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 2:50 p.m.
