Present: David Best Arthur Burrows (Voting) Jim Cleland Jim Kamstra Joe McKenna Kerry Meydam Karin Murphy Brian Reid Jim Richards Dan Stanoi John Stoner Councillor Willie Woo Regrets: Greg Wells (GRCA) Also Present: Jennifer O’Donnell Peter Windolf (Non-Voting) Absent: Warren May (MNR) 1. Agenda Additions There were no additions to the agenda. Acceptance of Agenda MOVED by Jim Cleland, seconded by Joe McKenna THAT the agenda for April 8, 2008 be accepted. CARRIED 2. Minutes of March 18, 2008 Corrections There were no corrections to the minutes. Approval of Minutes MOVED by Jim Cleland, seconded by Kerry Meydam THAT the minutes of March 18, 2008 be approved. CARRIED 3. Issues arising from the Minutes There were no issues arising from the minutes. 4. Sub-Committee Reports Maintenance The bird houses have been reinstalled and are already being occupied. After the snow melt, there is a lot of garbage that needs to get picked up; perhaps more than the maintenance sub-committee can do by themselves. Jennifer will ask Operations if the SWNA is one of the sites for Pitch-In Week this year. (Note: Operations has confirmed that the SWNA will be one of the locations for the public to clean on Saturday April 26 between 9:00 AM and Noon. The meeting point is the Toronto Street parking lot) Some of the soil around the trees planted last year has settled and needs to be compacted or filled in with more soil. Peter will check the trees and advise on the best course of action. A second garbage can at the Toronto Street parking lot is needed. Operations will be asked to provide an extra one. Jim Cleland reports that dumping is occurring in the he MNR parking lot off of Cobbledick Road. MNR will be notified of the problem. An old waterbed that was removed from the east side of the SWNA in the fall is still sitting on the side of the road by Toronto Street. Operations will be asked to pick it up. 5. Updates MNR Rangers 2008 Projects The Municipality has the opportunity to make use of the MNR Rangers again this year. They will be available to work at the SWNA for 2 or 3 days in a row. Projects that they may be able to assist with are: the woodchip trail on the east side of the creek, asphalt repairs on paved trails, weeding and covering with filter fibre around the benches and signs. During the next meeting,to be held on site, the Committee will decide where they will be best utilized. Wild About Wetlands Final details about this upcoming event were discussed in order to complete the advertising. A draft of the poster was circulated to the committee. Revisions will be made based on the comments received at the meeting and then copies will be made for distribution. Clarington This Week has promised to print an article in the paper prior to the event. Kerry has volunteered to approach the Orono Times to see if they are able to offer something similar. Also, Joe will contact KX96 about having a free radio ad run. OFAH TackleShare Program By e-mail Greg Wells reports that the TackleShare program may not run this year. Their sponsor has pulled out and they have not found a new sponsor yet. Jim Kamstra volunteered his stocked pond at his nursery in Taunton as an alternative for a fishing event. While the Committee was very appreciative of his offer, it was decided not to host an off-site event. PowerPoint Presentation David Best and John Stoner will be presenting to the Solina Women’s Institute at the th Solina community hall on Wednesday May 14. A laptop and a projector is required, as neither the institute nor the hall has one. Councillor Woo volunteered to lend them his equipment to use for the evening. Adjournment: 8:00 P.M.
