Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee
held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ante Room

1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES .
Moved by Tara Stocker, seconded by Laurie Davis
THAT the minutes of a regular meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held
on January 15, 2002 be approved.

THAT the minutes of a regular meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held
on February 13, 2002 be approved.

3. PHOTOS WITH SANTA—AT ANIMAL SHELTER
Photos with Santa and pet at Pet Smart was financially successful for the
Shelter. Suggestion was to do the same at the Shelter one evening each week in
December. Social Committee has Santa Suit for loan. Suggestion was to use
donation account to purchase own Santa Suit and camera.
4. OTHER BUSINESS
Dr. Mingram was getting information regarding Microchip Clinic. Will put
on agenda for next meeting. Sheila will discuss her findings as well at the
next meeting. Donna will call Dr. Mingram to see if he has compiled
information and will have someone pick information up at his office.
Marie gave verbal report regarding Petfinder.com. which is a free service
for pet adoption and Report was sent to Council. The service had over
1100 hits the first week and 1187 hits the second week. Petpostings.com
is also on the website and is for finding lost pets for which there is a small
fee. There are various ways now to locate your pet through the Shelter,
either by phone, in person or over the website. The website is also listed
on our ad "Reigning Cats and Dogs in the local newspapers.
Durham Region Health Department had concerns regarding the
dumpsters downtown which is also a property standards issue. A letter
was sent to Ron Hooper, Chairman of the BIA regarding this issue and
suggested taking a joint approach to solve the problem.
5. OTHER BUSINESS
Discussions were held regarding our Exotic Animal By-law and letter to Council
quoting resolution made at the January 15th Animal Advisory Meeting. After
discussion with committee the resolution has been withdrawn. Suggestion to
repeal schedule was agreed upon and Marie and Sheila will produce an
amendment to Council suggesting repealing schedule to read licenced veterinary
clinics instead of naming them individually.
Tara circulated newspaper clipping from Toronto Star stating Animals left on a
short leash is unacceptable treatment and owners will be fined.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
