Cochrane Laurie Davis, Durham Animal Adoption Sheila Elkington, Sr. Animal Services Officer Dr. Julia Holt Peter Klose Marie Knight Stanley, Deputy Clerk Councillor Don MacArthur Dr. Bill Mingram Nick VanSeggelen Donna MacKay Absent: Wolf Klose, Orono Cat World Laurie Ovenden Scott Creed chaired the meeting. ADOPTION OF MINUTES 1. Moved by Marie Knight Stanley, seconded by Sheila Elkington That the minutes of the regular meetings of the Animal Advisory Committee held on May 10, 2000 and April 12, 2000 be approved. “CARRIED” BUSINESS ARISING FROM MINUTES 2. Letters were prepared and sent to the Library and Pet Smart thanking them for their participation in Pet Awareness Week. MURAL UPDATE 3. The Mural is now complete and we have received several positive calls from Clarington residents. MTO has also returned our cheque for the Permit Application. Marie will call Paul Livingston and inquire if the Mural will need further protective coverings throughout the years. There was discussion regarding flood lights at night to illuminate the mural. Fred Horvath will be contacted. The Committee agreed that a letter should be sent to Paul Livingston & Pat Halverson from the Animal Advisory Committee and Mayor & Council, complimenting them for a job well done. Animal Advisory Committee Minutes - 2 - June 7, 2000 ______________________________________________________________________________ MICROCHIP CLINIC – HUMANE SOCIETY 4. A Microchip clinic by the Ontario Humane Society is being held this Saturday, June 10, 2000 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fee will be $35.00/ animal. Sheila will contact Ontario Humane Society to be put on their fax list of upcoming events and clinics. Dr. Mingram will contact Veterinary Association re: wording on a handout to be distributed at the upcoming Rabies Clinic in the Fall. OTHER BUSINESS 5. Councillor Rowe will contact Margaret Rogers at Visual Arts Centre to initiate a plan for next year’s Pet Awareness Week re: artwork referring to Responsible Pet Ownership. Unanimous support was given by Committee. Marie Knight Stanley contacted Bell re: wrong listing for Animal Shelter in the phone book. It will now be listed in blue, white and yellow pages of the phone book. Jennifer Cooke will be taking pictures of 6 more dogs to be shown on the Municipality’s web site. Nick VanSeggelen raised concerns of how busy it is at the Animal Shelter while short staffed. NEXT MEETING 6. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, September 13, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. in the Ante Room at the Municipal Administrative Centre. ADJOUNRMENT 7.
