HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-09-09 Minutes ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held on Thursday, September 9, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Animal Shelter. ROLL CALL Present Were: Laurie Davis, Durham Animal Adoption Sheila Elkington, Sr. Animal Control Officer Wolf Klose, Orono Cat World (until 31:25 p.m.) Laurie Ovenden Marie Knight Stanley, Deputy Clerk Nick VanSeggelen Absent Were: Scott Creed, Orono Cat World Councillor Jane Rowe Marie Knight Stanley chaired the meeting. 1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES Moved by Laurie Ovenden, seconded by Laurie Davis That the minutes of the regular meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held on June 3, 1999 be approved. "CARRIED" 2. PRESENTATION BY PAUL LIVINGSTON, ARTIST Paul Livingston presented 3 designs he prepared for a mural to be painted on the west side of the Animal Shelter building sometime next year; if this project receives Council's approval. There was some discussion and design#C was chosen with a few minor changes. Paul will redo to scale and present at next meeting on October 14, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. Committee Room#1 at the Administrative Centre, along with written quotation. RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERS' BY-LAW- FEEDBACK Responsible Pet Owners' By-law went to General Purpose and Administration Meeting on June 21, 1999 and was approved. To date, there has been very little feedback from members of the public. 4. OTHER BUSINESS Laurie Ovenden questioned the safety of microchipping for cats. Sheila passed around a sample of a microchip (very tiny) and assured there was no health risk associated. The Humane Society does microchipping as a fundraiser. Sheila will get information for next meeting. Nick VanSeggelen suggested sending a letter to Rotary Club for having the building painted. All agreed but Nick will confirm before sending out. Marie Knight Stanley discussed having a Veterinarian on the Committee attending meetings. Newcastle Veterinary are interested but have a problem with manpower at this time. Laurie Ovenden and Laurie Davis will put together scrapbook from clippings. Laurie Davis requested a copy of the Responsible Pet Owners' By-law. Donna will take copy to next meeting. 5. NEXT MEETING The next meeting has been scheduled for October 14, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Committee Room#1 at the Municipal Administrative Centre. 6.
