ANIMAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Minutes of a meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee
held on Thursday, June 3, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Municipal
Administrative Centre
ROLL CALL
Present Were: Scott Creed, Orono Cat World
Sheila Elkington, Sr. Animal Control Officer
Wolf Klose, Orono Cat World
Laurie Ovenden
Councillor Jane Rowe
Marie Knight Stanley, Deputy Clerk
Nick VanSeggelen
Absent Were: Laurie Davis, Durham Animal Adoption
Marie Knight Stanley chaired the meeting.
1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Moved by Wolf Klose, seconded by Laurie Ovenden
That the minutes of the regular meeting of the Animal Advisory Committee held on April
8, 1999, be approved.

2. OFFICAL WELCOME TO SCOTT CREED
Marie Knight Stanley welcomed Scott Creed, congratulated him on his appointment to
the Animal Advisory Committee and thanked him for his past participation in attending
Animal Advisory Committee meetings as an observer.
3. RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP BY-LAW
Marie Knight Stanley advised Members of the Committee that the Responsible Pet
Owners By-law will be submitted to the General Purpose and Administration Committee
on June 21, 1999.

Laurie Ovenden and Nick VanSeggelen have agreed to make a presentation to Members
of the Committee on the merits of the proposed By-law.
4. OTHER BUSINESS
Sheila Elkington has advised that staff of the Animal Shelter work with Pet Value in
Bowmanville and Pet Smart in Whitby who are assisting in putting our cats up for
adoption. The adoption rate in the stores has been very successful. Wolf Klose has
advised that Orono Cat World would be willing to assist the Animal Shelter by donating
the proceeds from cats and kittens to the Animal Shelter.
A local business, Inspired Ambiance, has been donating the proceeds from their gift
wrapping to the Animal Shelter. Staff will write an official letter of thanks on behalf of
Mayor and Members of Council and staff and deliver the letter to Inspired Ambiance.
5.NEXT MEETING
The next meeting has been scheduled for September 9, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Animal
Shelter.
6. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m.
