OTHER COMMITTEE REPORTS
DAAC
Next meeting of DAAC is scheduled for next week.
Durham Region Tree cutting By-law (proposed):
AACC August 29, 2007
Clarington’s tree cutting by-law has an exception for farmers south of Taunton Road.
The proposed bylaw has anything over 1 ha is classed as a forest. The Ag Committee feel that
anything in Class 1, 2 and 3 land should be exempt.
The Region has rewritten their tree cutting by-law. Any property over 1 ha will require a permit
to remove trees. Trees must be marked by a forester or professional evaluator before you can
cut them down. Many area municipalities would have difficulty enforcing the By-law if it came
into effect, because of the limited amount to staff in municipal enforcement and also the lack of
professional forestry staff to comment on the plans. For example, Clarington does not have the
resources. The Town of Uxbridge has sent a resolution to the region stating that their By-law
enforcement officers will not enforce the tree cutting by-law should it come into effect.
407 Committee
Clarington Staff will be preparing comments to send to the consultants. Deadline is the week of
th
October 16. Please forward your comments to Faye so that they can be incorporated into the
report.
ORONO FAIR
thth
Orono Fair is September 6 to 9 this year. AACC will again have our display set up in the
agricultural building. The display will include the map of the 407 Technically Preferred Route.
Faye will put together a display for public awareness of the “Red Dot”.
