1. ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Moved by Councillor Hooper, seconded by K. Meydam
THAT the minutes of the meeting held on April 28, 2008 be adopted.

2. CEMETERY MAINTENANCE
J. Bate advised that he has contacted all of the individuals who have been
performing the maintenance on the cemeteries and all are willing to continue for
2009, with the exception that Steve Barrie will be looking after Providence
Cemetery rather than Alex Barrie.
3. BROWN FAMILY CEMETERY
The work on the Brown Family Cemetery is complete, with a gated fence
installed and grass planted.
4, COULTER-HAMILTON FAMILY PLOT (BANDSTRA’S FARM)
The Coulter-Hamilton Family plot consists of three stones which are in disarray.
The area is being fenced this week and the stones will be repaired (placed on
their bases). Mr. Bandstra has offered to look after the maintenance of the plot.

5. BEACH BURIAL PLOT
T. Maye advised that he has cut some of the brush around the grave stone, but
the area needs to be cleaned up. The committee will visit the site and determine
the extent of work that should be completed.
6. NAY & STAPLES CEMETERY - MCNEILE/ELLIOTT/EDE CEMETERY
J. Bate has spoken with Bob Chater (a former member of the Abandoned
Cemeteries Board) and has been given directions to these cemeteries.
Bob Genosko, Gary Cox and John Bate will go and see if they can locate them
prior to the committee tour.
7. ONGOING MAINTENANCE
With the exception of two individuals, all those who performed the maintenance
of the cemeteries in previous years are willing to continue with the same
arrangements for this season.

THAT Ron Stevenson be paid an additional $75 per cemetery for the four
cemeteries he maintains, ie, Trinity Anglican, Presbyterian, Mount Vernon
Episcopal, and Advent, for a total of $2800 for the year.

THAT Michael Glass be authorized to perform the maintenance of the Hampton
South Cemetery at a cost of $500 for the year, as Lee Campbell has advised that
she is no longer interested in maintaining it.

8. OTHER BUSINESS
A tour date of Thursday, May 8, 2008 was decided. The Committee members
will meet at the Municipal Administrative Centre at 4:30. The Chair will arrange
for a bus and advise the property owners. An inventory of signs will be
undertaken.

D. Picket advised that she has been in contact with Oshawa Monuments
regarding the repair and maintenance of the stones. The white stones can be
sandblasted at a cost of $50 - $75 per stone and the treatment will last a
maximum of 4 to 5 years and will continue to deteriorate. The polished granite
stones can be cleaned with a pressure washer, or with the use of water, bleach
and a bristle brush. Monument sealer or verithane can be applied which will last
approximately 4 years. Denise will contact the company again to ascertain
whether the stones could be recut.
9. DATE OF NEXT MEETING
The next meeting will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. (tour).
10. ADJOURNMENT
