Councillor Rowe chaired this inaugural meeting of the Committee.
1. Introductions
The Committee Members provided introductions of themselves and
indicated their areas of interest in serving on the Committee.
2. Terms of Reference of Committee
The Terms of Reference, as approved by Council, were reviewed and
discussed by the Members.
3. Schedule of Meetings
It was agreed that Committee meetings will be held the first Thursday of
every month from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Meetings will be held on August
7 and September 4, 2003, in order to prepare the Accessibility Plan, which
is to be presented to Council by September 30, 2003.
4. Review of Ontarians With Disabilities Act, 2001
The Ontarians With Disabilities Act was discussed, paying particular
attention to those sections affecting municipalities.

5. Preparation of Plan
A draft plan will be included on the next agenda for discussion.
6. Special Projects
The following are areas that Committee members would like addressed:
?
Appropriate signage on the front of the Municipal Administrative
Centre;
?
Blue paint on handicapped parking spots;
?
Private and retail premises, particularly new construction;
?
Transportation issues;
?
Provision of accessible parking spots, especially during downtown
festivals;
?
Obstruction of sidewalks;
?
Audible traffic signals;
?
Mall sidewalks level from driveway to front door;
?
Downtown core being more accessible to elderly and physically
disabled;
?
Awards of Excellence for accessibility issues;
?
Preparation of a directory of services; and
?
Sidewalks that are uneven and have various widths.
7. Election of Chair
This issue was referred to the next meeting, which is scheduled to be held
on August 7, 2003.
8. Adjournment
The meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
