ADOPTION OF MINUTES Moved by Evylin Stroud, seconded by Tim Hick THAT the minutes of the meeting held on June 3, 2004 be approved. "CARRIED" 2. SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS a) Business Awards of Excellence The Chair has not been able to contact Ron Collis; he will do so prior to the next meeting. b) Transportation Walter advised the committee that Blue Line Taxi in Oshawa has six wheelchair accessible cabs; four London Cabs and two Chevy Vans. Also, they will have three wheelchair accessible cabs in Clarington, two London Cabs and one Chevy Van. c) Operations Keith advised that the Region of Durham has approved audible traffic lights to be installed at Liberty Street and King Street. Clarington Accessibility - 2 - July 8, 2004 Advisory Committee d) Site Plan Review Evylin and Brian have questioned Richard Holy, Planner about having a sidewalk from Baseline Road into the new dance studio and if the window in the reception area could be lowered to 4 feet. 4. COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP An advertisement has been placed in the local newspaper for applications from individuals interested in becoming Members of the Committee. The ad will run for three weeks and the appointments will be considered by Council on September 13, 2004. 5. OTHER BUSINESS (a) The Rick Hansen event was extremely successful. Approximately $8,000 will be raised. Sponsorships and prizes were provided by many local businesses. Tim Hick was thanked for his work; he was responsible for a significant number of the participants and about one-half of the money that was raised. (b) Evylin provided a reply from Austin Smith, Dairy Queen regarding her letter of suggestions for the furnishings in the fast food establishment. Mr. Austin stated that head office makes the decision regarding the furnishings, but he did indicate that there will be tables with free standing chairs. 6. NEW BUSINESS (a) Walter indicated that the handicap stall door in the men’s washroom on the second floor of the library swings in the wrong direction. This will be reported to the maintenance staff. (b) The committee was asked to forward their comments pertaining to the Accessibility Plan to the Municipal Clerk. 7. DATE OF NEXT MEETING The next regular meeting is scheduled to be held on September 9, 2004 at 6:30 p.m. Clarington Accessibility - 3 - July 8, 2004 Advisory Committee 8.
