9. Floor joists shall be at least 2" by 8" with 16" centers. Frame studding
shall be at least 2" by 4" with 16" centers and braced in both cases
at every 8 feet. One storey buildings .shall have ceiling joists at
least 2" by 4" with 16" centers with center purline 4 feet from the
eaves and roof rafters at least 2" by 4".
i0. Two storey buildings shall have ceiling joists at least 2" by 8" with
16" centers with purline as in one storey specifications.
11. All roofs must be constructed in hip or cottage style in dwellings
with exception to duplex and business buildings which may have a
flat hot roof.
12. All chimneys shall be constructed of not less than 4" thickness of brick
or concrete with a the flue lining for the full length of all flues, each
such flue to be provided with a cleanout opening at its base. A11
chimneys shall be supported on a solid masonry base.
l8. All plumbing including septic tanks, in the Township of Darlington
require a plumbing permit issued by the Building Inspector.
]4. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspector to institute all necessary
proceedings for contraventions of this by-law.
15. Any person or persons who commit a breach of this by-law shall
incur a penalty of not more than $50.00, and not less than $10.00,
(exclusive of costs).
16. The conviction of any offender under a breach of the provisions of
this by-law, shall not operate as a bar to a further prosecution, and
an offence against this by-law shall be deemed to have been committed
for each day that a building permit under this by-law has not been
issued in respect of any building whose construction was instituted
without the issuing of a permit.
17. All penalties and costs incurred hereunder, shall be recoverable
under the provisions of the Ontario Summary Convictions Act.

A by-law to regulate the erection and provide for the safety
of buildings and structures.
THE COUNCIL OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF THE TOWNSHIP OF DARLINGTON ENACTS
as follows:
171r Hy-Law No, 2004 passed on the 6th day of Mqy, 1954, is hereby repealed,
and this by-law enacted in its place and stead,
~~2„ The Council shall appoint a building inspector to carry out the
j provisions of this by-law, and the building inspector is hereby empowered to

receive all applications for the construction of buildings or additions'. thereto,
and the plans therefore shall be submitted with each appli~:ation.
3. The fee for the permit shall be the sum oP $2,00 for a single garage,
and X5,00 for a residence. Additions or other buildings on a property shall be
X3,00.
Any building permit issued by the Building Inspector under the provisions
of this By-law, shall expire when no building construction is started within
i 6 months from the date of issuance,
5. Excavations shall be kept clear oP water at all times,
6, All dwellings shall have a foundation base at least 8 inches thick,
and to a depth of a least 3 feet below grade level. The basement walls must be
constructedof cement or cement blocks.
7. Foundations shall not be placed on frozen soil, nor shall any
foundation be placed during freezing weather unless adequately protected against
Frost action,
8. No cellar ®P garage shall be used for human habitation.
