Recommendations:
,t is respectfullY recommended that the General purpose and
AdministratiOn committee recommend to council the following'

REPORT:
1;1 ~he littached charts indicate statistical information pertaining to
~y~lliW Enforcement activititeS for the period January 1, 1993 to
Ma:rch 31, 1993 and is provided herein for the information of
committee and council.
COMMENTS:
2.1 Since January 1, 1993 the By-law Enforcement Division has attende'
Court on four occasions for first appearance matters, prosecutiOn
lind appeals. During this time a total of 38 charges were brougt
before the Court exclusive of parking matters. ~hese resulted
12 convictions, (see attached list). No charges were dismissed'
withdrawn. At present, approximatelY 30 cases are still awaiti
trialS or first appearances.

* An unconditional or absolute discharge is a sentencing option of the
Court. upon conviction, the Court may dispense with the levying of a
fine or probation order if, in the opinion of the court it is in the
best interests of the defendant and not contrary to the public interest.

** A suspended sentence is a sentencing option. On conviction, no fine
is levied, however, the Court may impose a probation term or suspend
passage of sentence for a specified period of time. ,f the defendant is
brought back before the Court during the probation period on a similar
charge, he may be sentenced at that time on the original matter as well.
