HomeMy WebLinkAboutTR-53-90 TOWN OF NEWCASTLE REPORT M:ETIfIlJ : DATE: REPffiT #: SlJRECT: I GENERAL PURPOSE AND ADMINISTRATION COMMITTEE June 18, 1990 TR-53-90 FILE #: RESTORATION OF MONUMENTS - BOWMANVILLE AND BOND HEAD CEMETERIES RECOMMENDATIONS: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: 1. That Report TR-53-90 be received; 2. That a purchase order in an approximate amount of $20,000.00 be issued to G. Sloan Trucking Limited, Lindsay, Ontario, for the restoration of various monuments throughout the Bowmanville and Bond Head Cemeteries, as required by the Department of Community Services; 3. That the procedures set out in the Purchasing By-law #82-2, Section 5, Paragraph 04, be waived for this particular transaction; and 4. That the funds be drawn from the Community Services approved 1990 Capital Budget, Account #7402-X-501 BACKGROUND AND COMMENT: Funds in the amount of $20,000.00 were included in the 1990 Community Services Capital Budget, Account #7402-X-0501 (as reflected on Page 162 of the Capital Budget) for restoration of various monuments at both the Bowmanville and Bond Head Cemeteries. 710 Page - 2 - TR-53-90 RESTORATION OF MONUMENTS - BOWMANVILLE AND BOND HEAD CEMETERIES Subsequently, G. Sloan Trucking Limited, being the only known area supplier of this service, was requested to submit an estimate to provide the necessary repairs. The estimate provided is as follows: 15 small stones - 22 large stones - $400.00 per stone $600.00 per stone $ 6,000.00 13,200.00 $19,200.00 The above prices include new foundations, relevelling and resetting each stone. Note that these prices per stone are estimates and may fluctuate i.e. small stones may require more or less work as well as the large stones. See proposal attached marked Schedule A. The Treasurer has reviewed the funding requirements and concurs with the recommendation. Queries with respect to department needs, specifications, etc., should be referred to the Director of Community Services. After further review and analysis of the proposal by both Community Services and Purchasing, it was mutually agreed that G. Sloan Trucking Limited, Lindsay, Ontario, be recommended for the contract award for the restoration of various monuments throughout the Bowmanville and Bond Head Cemeteries. Although the subject firm have not previously performed for the Town of Newcastle, they have satisfactorily provided this service for Oshawa Monument, Oshawa, Ontario, and Rutter Monument, Cobourg, Ontario. Please note that these prices per stone are estimates and as we dis- cussed may fluctuate, i.e. small stones may require more/less work as well as the large stones.
