That report TR-29-90 be received; 2. That staff be authorized to proceed forthwith on the acquisition of the computer equipment hardware as outlined in the 1990 Capital Budget totalling $95,000 from Computerland Canada. (Detailed pg. 10) 3. That staff be authorized to proceed, with the applicable computer software, as required, and installation as approved in the 1990 Capital Budget totalling $60,000. (Detailed on page 10) 4. That procedures set out in the Purchasing By-Law #82-92, Section 5, Paragraph 4, regarding tendering, be waived for the purpose of the 1990 computer equipment acquisition. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: The continuous growth of the municipality over the last several years has brought about the need for expansion of the Town's computer information systems to maintain the appropriate levels of service to the public by all departments. 701 TR-29-90 Paqe 2 The 1989 budget provided for the implementation of a local area network (LAN) utilizing personal computers. Through that process Computerland Canada was selected as the most suitable vendor by providing extensive experience, large client base and competitive pricing. The tendering process was then duly waived by resolution to allow the selection of this specialized equipment which was seen to best serve the requirements of the Town. Over the past year, Computer land has demonstrated a strong commitment to the Town by providing quality products, services and training. As an example of this commitment they have converted their Oshawa location to a corporate business centre and relocated a customer support technical specialist to Bowmanville. The purpose of this report is to recommend proceeding with the approved budgeted computer equipment purchases, in the same manner so as to maintain the integrity of the established network system. Forthwith approval is requested due to the substantial lead time required for the order and installation of the new equipment. In summary, the staff feel that due to the nature and complexity of this type of system, the need for continuity in the ongoing implementation is of extreme importance. The implementation and support services provided by Computerland are at very acceptable level and maintaining the ongoing relationship will ensure success and benefit to the computerized efficiency of the Town.
