POLICY OF PURCHASE OF RECYCLED PAPER PRODUCTS
RECOMMENDATIONS:
It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and
Administration Committee recommend to Council the following:
1. That Report TR-20-90 be received;
2. That the attached Policy statement be adopted as the
Town of Newcastle's policy for the purchase of Recycled
Paper products.
BACKGROUND AND COMMENT:
Over the past few years, environmental concerns such as recycling
have become prominent issues. As public awareness of this issue
has increased, the price of recycled paper has begun to decrease.
In many instances there is little or no difference between the
cost of recycled paper and standard bond. In addition, the
quality of recycled paper is very comparable.
The benefits of using recycled products are many, and have been
previously outlined for Council in Admin Report 1-90.

POLICY OF PURCHASE OR RECYCLED PAPER PRODUCTS
Subsequent to Admin Report 1-90, Council passed Resolution
#C-147-90, dated February 26, 1990, which referred this matter to
the Treasury Department for review and consideration.
The procedures outlined in the attached Policy statement will
ensure that the Corporation obtains the best competitive price
for their paper products, and at the same time ensures that
recycled products are utilized wherever financially feasible.
