2.2 On June 1, 1996 the fire department will officially begin using the curriculum
designed to support the Provincial "Firefighter Standard". The standard and
curriculum have been developed over the last several years. In the future all
firefighters in the Province will be trained to the same standard, set by the Fire
Service.
This department has been committed to the use of the curriculum since the
middle of 1994. Since then all full time captains and acting captains have
completed Trainer/Facilitator Courses, a requirement in the delivery ofthe training.
The department intends to train both full time and part-time firefighters to the
same standard. It is anticipated that only minor changes in the methods of
training will be required.

The thrust of the program is to make the training performance based and the
responsibility of the learner (firefighter). When the firefighter has completed the
curriculum, including a comprehensive test administered by the Ontario Fire
College, he/she will be entitled to a Provincial Certificate.
The program will reinforce the department's ability to deliver effective fire services
with proven and competent firefighters.
