BACKGROUND 1,1 Our report covers the month of May, 1996. It is our intent to provide Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner. 2. REPORT 2.1 The department responded to 163 calls in May and recorded total fire loss at $63,050. A breakdown of the calls responded to follows. The standard and curriculum have been developed over the last several years. In the future all firefighters in the Province will be trained to the same standard, set by the Fire Service. This department has been committed to the use of the curriculum since the middle of 1994. Since then all full time captains and acting captains have completed Trainer/Facilitator Courses, a requirement in the delivery ofthe training. The department intends to train both full time and part-time firefighters to the same standard. It is anticipated that only minor changes in the methods of training will be required. Continued.... 8~2 FD-13-96 -3- The thrust of the program is to make the training performance based and the responsibility of the learner (firefighter). When the firefighter has completed the curriculum, including a comprehensive test administered by the Ontario Fire College, he/she will be entitled to a Provincial Certificate. The program will reinforce the department's ability to deliver effective fire services with proven and competent firefighters. 3.
