By-Law # Recommendations: It is respectfully recommended that the General Purpose and Administration Committee recommend to Council the following: THAT Report FD-12-96 be received for information. 1. BACKGROUND. 1.1 Our report covers the month of April, 1996. It is our intent to provide Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner. 2. REPORT 2.1 The department responded to 133 calls in April and recorded total fire loss at $64,100. A breakdown of the calls responded to follows. The keynote speaker was the Honourable Robert W. Runciman, Solicitor General of Ontario. The major topic discussed was the Fire Marshal's Report on the future of the Fire Service in Ontario. Emphasis was placed on future consideration regarding transferring of responsibilities of the Fire Service from the lower tier to upper tier governments, that is, from Municipal to Regional government. Another key issue discussed was the amalgamation of services. An example offered was that of Peel Region where police, fire and ambulance dispatch centres were combined into one. Also offered was the feasibility of the Fire Service taking over the responsibilities of the Ambulance Service. 8~J2 Continued.... FD-12-96 _ 3 _ 3.
