2.2 On December 13, 1995 the department responded to a structure fire at 6108
Manvers-Darlington Townline Road. Two fatalities were the outcome of this fire.
The Fire Marshal's Office conducted an intense investigation, which has not been
finalized to-date. Upon completion, a full report will be forwarded to this
department.
2.3 The 15°/a increase in the number of responses in 1995 was due in part to the
revised standards for ambulance assist calls. There was also an increase in the
number of property fires during the year. As a result, the annual dollar loss was
higher. The bulk of the property loss was due to the fires at the Orono apartment
building and the Newcastle Lumber Yard.
