BACKGROUND 1.1 -0ur report covers the month of December, 1995. It is our intent to provide Committee with information relevant to this department, in a timely manner.. 2. REPORT 2.1 The department responded to 111 calls in December and recorded total fire loss at $258,402. A breakdown of the calls responded to follows. Two fatalities were the outcome of this fire. The Fire Marshal's Office conducted an intense investigation, which has not been finalized to-date. Upon completion, a full report will be forwarded to this department. 2.3 The 15°/a increase in the number of responses in 1995 was due in part to the revised standards for ambulance assist calls. There was also an increase in the number of property fires during the year. As a result, the annual dollar loss was higher. The bulk of the property loss was due to the fires at the Orono apartment building and the Newcastle Lumber Yard. Continued..... 8~2 FD-2-96 -3- 3.
